Interventions

We have access to a range of interventions at Ysgol Bro Caereinion. A sample of these can be found below:

  • IDL Literacy - an online literacy programme that targets learners’ reading and spelling skills following a baseline assessment to targets weak areas. Further information can be found here: IDL Literacy Video. This intervention is completed 3 mornings per week during registration time over the course of a term.

  • IDL Numeracy - an online numeracy programme that targets learners’ numeracy skills by individual skills following a baseline assessment to highlight weak areas. Further information be found here: IDL Numeracy Video. This intervention is completed 3 mornings per week during registration time over the course of a term.

  • Dyfal Donc / Catch Up Literacy - 1:1 literacy sessions available in English and Welsh that support reading and comprehension. These sessions are 20 minutes long and happen twice a week for a 6 week period.

  • Rainbow Reading - An intensive guided reading intervention with support from an LSA. The learner completes 20 - 30 minute reading session 5 times a week over a course of 10 weeks.

  • Precision Teaching - Precision Teaching is used for a variety of topics. Precision teaching works via 10 minute intervention twice daily with an LSA on a specific topic. These are usually short term intervention for 10 days per set.

  • Dyslexia Support Sessions - Sessions supporting pupils with dyslexia around a variety of areas such as; spelling, extended writing, working memory and exam technique

  • Curriculum Disapplication: In some instances it is necessary for us to disapply learners from some areas of the curriculum. This will only be done in some cases, where all are in agreement that it is the best option.

  • ELSA - Emotional Literacy intervention that is carried out over 6 weeks for 1 lesson per week during this time.

  • Talkabout - A programme for developing self-esteem, social and friendship skills.

Universal Learning Provision

Universal Learning Provision (ULP) is provision that is generally available to pupils. The ULP offer at Ysgol Bro Caereinion:

  • High Quality Differentiated Teaching

  • Broad and Balanced Curriculum with high engagement of learners

  • High Expectations of all learners

  • Aspirational targets for all learners

  • Regular assessment, monitoring and review of learners’ progress

  • Creation of One Page Profile (OPP)

ULP IN the classroom

What does ULP look like in the classroom?

  • Displays which support learning (key words, reading strategies, number walls, WAGOLLs)

  • Use of Assessment for Learning to gage prior learning

  • Clear learning intentions and success criteria

  • ‘Chunking’ of tasks and content

  • Use of dual coding to support understanding

  • A range of groupings for group activities

  • Building good relationships with learners

  • Effective use of praise

  • Use of modelling

  • Effective use of LSA’s where present (planned for, directed and employed to maximise learning

  • Staff referring to and using strategies provided on OPP’s

Some learners may require targeted support to support their progress

Targeted Learning Provision

Universal Targeted Provision is provision that is given to a pupil who has an aspect of learning which they find difficult. Targeted Provision will usually involve a short-term intervention delivered in or out of the classroom.

Most children will require some targeted provision at some point in their education and targeted provision will support pupils with their progress of a particular skill.
