Holidays and absence during
the school term
Ysgol Bro Caereinion hopes that you can arrange holidays around the existing 175 days the school is closed through weekends and school holidays and help support us support your child in achieving success in school. Parents/guardians should apply in advance to take holidays in term time. The request must be made no later than 5 days before the holiday start date. The headteacher is not obliged to authorise holiday absence, and there is no minimum entitlement of holiday absence. The headteacher has the discretion to authorise absences for up to 10 days in a school year. If a pupil is away for longer than agreed, the period outside the agreed dates will be an unauthorised absence. There is no right to appeal: the decision of the headteacher is final.
Ysgol Bro Caereinion considers the factors noted below into consideration before a decision is made as to whether to authorise any holiday requested during term time:
Attendance figures for the last year. We would expect attendance to be above the school’s target of 95%.
Behaviour and attitude to school life.
That the holiday does not impact on any key periods of learning identified and highlighted by the school such as internal/external tests/exams carried out at various times during the school year.
That the holiday form (linked below) has been completed correctly and the request has been made 5 school days before the holiday.
Please therefore remember that holidays can only be authorised at the Headteachers discretion. An email stating whether the holiday request was authorised/unauthorised will be sent to you following receipt of your request within 5 working days.
